Rebecca Lucario from Acoma Pueblo is undoubtedly one of the all time great pottery painters. She is known for her thin-walled pottery and the intricate painted designs. She is the granddaughter of Dolores Sanchez and sister of Marilyn Ray, Judy Lewis, and Carolyn Concho. She learned pottery making from her grandmother Dolores and uses traditional designs and Mimbres iconography in her work. Rebecca has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in multiple books, including the cover of the “Changing Hands” book.

The Navajo are relatively recent arrivals to the Southwest. They probably migrated from the north in the 16th Century thereby becoming a part of the Pueblo IV period. The Navajo have made pottery since their arrival; possibly they brought pottery with them during their southern migration. They made a plain and decorated pottery.
